A New Era in Finnish Coaching – Markus Ikonen Appointed as the New Leader of BCI

On July 1st, 2025, a new chapter begins in the history of Finnish coaching as BCI Business Coaching Institute transitions to the ownership and leadership of Markus Ikonen. This change of ownership is more than a business transaction – it is a generational shift that brings together a rich legacy in coaching with a bold, forward-looking vision.

For decades, BCI has been a trailblazer in the Finnish coaching landscape. Founded by Kaj Hellbom, one of the country’s coaching pioneers, BCI introduced coaching to Finland at a time when the concept was still unfamiliar to most. Under Hellbom’s leadership, BCI became a respected training provider, strategic development partner, and trusted advisor whose impact can be seen in the everyday leadership practices of thousands of individuals and organizations. His legacy lives on in BCI’s expertise, client-centric approach, and deeply human way of working.

Now, the legacy built by Hellbom enters a new phase as Markus Ikonen takes over the leadership of the company on July 1st, 2025.

BCI’s new owner, Markus Ikonen, brings with him extensive leadership experience and a strong passion for people and organizational development. His background includes a 17-year career in executive roles within the financial sector and over a decade as an entrepreneur, serving as CEO and business coach at MuutosAkatemia Oy.

“Coaching is more than a method – it’s a way of meeting people. I want to help build a working life where every employee, supervisor, and leader is seen first and foremost as a human being, not just a role,” says Ikonen.
